I'm currently working as a web designer, but in the past I've been a project manager, technical director, producer, model, sandwich-maker and video store cashier. I built a custom ecommerce site for Redhawk Coffee Roasters, a family owned coffee business based in Pittsburgh, PA.

I worked with Mary Gonzales and Braden Walter Jr. to create a new web presence for their Pittsburgh, PA-based coffee business.  We began by developing brand personas and identifying the voice and experience that we were trying to capture with the website. We developed a color palette and two different visual directions for the project (one based on each owner 😉).

We chose one of the wireframes and spent several revisions fine-tuning the pages and features. We built out designs for a sentence-style ordering system and sorting system, to build on the editorial and high-end feel of the brand.  I built out an icon system to correspond to their brew methods and flavor profiles.  I took updated coffee bag photos and built out a photoshop template for labels.

Once everything was looking good, I moved onto the build. The site is based on a customized Shopify 2.0 theme with full client customizibility in the custom sections.

Once everything was tested, and Subscriptions and Wholesale functionality were added, I transferred the site to Mary and we took it live!

I'm a self taught photographer, here's a small selection of images that I'm liking recently.  I work in several different mediums.

I've been taking photos for 25 years.  My aunt was a photographer and helped me learn to develop photos in the darkroom at my grandparent's house.  I built pinhole cameras and camera obscuras, and took landscape photos in the yard.

I practiced with my dad's old Minolta until I eventually got a canon d30 on ebay (when it was years old) and a few lenses.  Since then I've grown away from and back toward photography throughout the years. Moving from digital to film and back.

I made an informational piece for the 2021 Fritz & Arlo Pear Cider that was bottled in Ligonier, PA right here at the double round.

We picked almost 500 lbs of pears at the Double Round in 2021 from five forgotten pear trees in the meadow.  We decided to make as much cider as we could.  We squoze about 21 gallons of juice from the pears and fermented them for a few months.  I collaborated with my wife Maggie on the labels and the production.

I began my career in the power industry at one of a few very specialized businesses providing visual inspection services to seven operating nuclear power plants. Our focused team succeeded as we were highly skilled and willing to take risks to complete jobs no one else could. We have retrieved objects from 'clean' systems that would have caused millions of dollars of damage to plant equipment.  

After the nuclear industry, I had no remaining excuses not to start the sandwich shop that I had been talking about for years.  In 2015, I co-founded Steve's Deli, in Pittsburgh's Strip District. I believe you shouldn't have to sacrifice affordability and convenience to create delicious, healthy food, and I built our menu around this mission. Our ingredients came from a dozen small farms and small-scale producers in our region. It was fulfilling to build the brand from nothing, and introduce our customers to modern cooking techniques. We made the best Reuben I've ever had, but our sleeper hit was the pulled trumpet mushroom and jackfruit BBQ. I'll trade recipes for interviews. 

After closing Steve's Deli, I began working for LUXE Creative, a high-end event design, and production company. I was drawn to LUXE by their fast-paced, creative team and saw my own values in the company as they refused to compromise from doing the best work possible and had the courage to take on large-scale tasks. I designed and managed six-figure pyrotechnic shows,  music festivals, backyard concerts, a million-dollar wedding in a public park, fashion shows, etc. The events business is one of constant crisis and with clear and logical thinking I was instrumental at defusing volatile situations and emergency issues.  Need 400 red light bulbs at 10 am the next day and it's already 7 pm? Check. Your rain plan tent is the wrong size and the event is tomorrow? Check.  

When I joined the team in 2016, we were a small startup running about 15 events a year with local charities and private clients.  Budgets were mostly under $100k. Clients included the Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Zoo, Children's Hospital, etc. By the end of my time with LUXE, I managed over 60 events per year with budgets up to $1.3M from clients like Uber, PNC Bank,  Highmark/AHN, UPMC, Comcast, etc. 

My success is mainly due to a constant desire to keep learning, empathy, and a wide-ranging general skillset. My understanding of the tasks that my team is working on both gives me greater insight when managing and planning projects, and also when interacting with clients. I've led teams of up to 75, consisting of mixed background freelancers, contracted employees, union workers, construction crews, videographers, photographers, models, landscapers, and graphic designers. 

I am excited about what's next. 😅
